 Crtl-Alt-Del doesn't work at all

The 3 finger salute is MIA. I have tried a different keyboard, as well
as USB/legacy connections. Besides, all 3 keys work individually.
Someone suggested resetting the bios to default, I tried that to no
effect. I haven't changed any configuration lately, other than the
bios trick to try to repair, my Ctrl-Alt-Del just ain't there...

Look in the system.ini file under the [386Enh] section for the line:
LocalReboot=Off (or maybe False) and change it to: LocalReboot=On.

If the line is not there, add it and save the file.

Thanx for the reply but it didn't help. I still have no ability to
Ctrl-Alt-Del. I have been searching for a solution to this problem for
a couple months now and no one seems to have a clue.

I have tried resetting my bios to it's default configuration,
restoring my 'puter to it's earliest restore point via system restore
(even though I haven't made any major changes to the system to begin
with) and looked around in TweakIU and X-Setup for some kind of
setting that perhaps changed. All to no avail.

As I said, the keys all work individually so that is not the problem.

Hi:

Does it work if you boot into Safe Mode?

If so, then the guess would be that something (a utility program,
driver, etc.) being loaded "Normally" is interfering with the key
combination.

OK, it works while I'm in safe mode! Now if I could only figure out
what program is interfering with it...unfortunately, I can't
Ctrl-Alt-Del to selectively shut down proggies to see which one it
is...sort of a Catch 22?

I use a program called End It All which you can use to shut down any running
program one at a time or a selection. You can select what you leave running.
Very useful when installing software as it will stop everything except
essential programs with one click.

This program may be a good substitute for my inoperable
3-finger-salute. Thanx!

In addition to the other suggestions: You can shut down programs from
wintop, which is as I recall a free download from Microsoft's site (I
installed it too long ago to remember the details).

Its appointed task is to show running tasks and how much of the CPU time
they use, but if you right-click a task and select Properties, then the
Priority tab, there is usually a button there to terminate the selected
program. I notice that not every running task has this button, however.
(A mystery...)

Gino

I installed EndItAll and am now happy with my Ctrl-Alt-Del
replacement! But I am still a bit upset that it stopped working in the
first place and really don't want to reformat to get it back, which
seems to be the only REAL solution at this point.
