My cursor someone changed to a square black blinking box. I have tried the
mouse controls, the keyboard functions, system restore etc and I can't get
the cursor back to a simple line cursor. Can anyone suggest a cure. I can
still type but it is very annoying. Thanks

Go to Control Panel > Accessibility Options > Display (tab).
Under "Cursor Options", move the "Width" slider all the way
to the left (narrow) and click APPLY.

In the Control Panel, double click Mouse, select Pointers
Under Customize, highlight Normal Select, click Browse,
Wait a few seconds for the Icons to show up,
Select pointer, and click Open, Apply and OK
Back at the desktop, REBOOT.
