Mouse Pointer moves to Upper Left Corner of Screen

Hello All,

My mouse has begun behaving erratically. After start up, the mouse
pointer goes to the upper left corner of the screen and selects the
first icon it "sees". The My Computer icon looks as though it is being
selected and deselected rapidly. I can open applications by forcing
the mouse in a certain direction but it puts up a fight as the screen

I should note that i'm using Windows XP and a generic PS/2 mouse. I
have tried disconnecting the mouse and the problem stops. Could this
be a software or hardware issue?

Any help would be appreciated.

1.mouse pointer moves to top left corner !?!?!

I installed SP1 recently on my Windows XP Professional desktop. After
installing the servicve pack, I noticed that on the start up screen
(thatpresents all the user names), when I click on a particular user to log
in, the mouse cursor automatically moves to the top left corner of the
screen. Sometimes, it happens more than once, as I click on the username
again and again. This is getting very irksome because it sometimes causes
the password box to loose focus and part of my password won't get entered.
The mouse behaves perfectly fine once I log in. Any tips or suggestions?

Thanks in advance.
