 low ink icon

I am using XP with a hp deskjet 952c. For a month I have had an Icon on my
taskbar advising me of low ink, I am not out of ink and would like to remove
the icon. I now HP would like me to buy a new cartridge. I will at my own
time and place. How do I find and get rid of the icon other than putting in a
new cartridge. Where is the icon hidden so that I can delete it permanently
Thanks

This is a Windows XP group.  Your problem would be better answered in
printer groups or HP support, HP  forums (if any).  If the low ink icon is
in the notification area (formerly called system tray) of the taskbar (right
side), right click the time, then left click Properties.  When the Taskbar
and Start Menu Properties dialog box opens, on the Taskbar tab, under the
heading Notification Area, make sure there's a check in the box for Hide
Inactive Icons (if there isn't one there already click to put a check
there).  Then click the Customize button.  When the Customize Notifications
window opens, click on the offending icon, use the dropdown arrow under the
field for the Behavior for that icon, select the option to Always Hide,
click the OK button, and then click the Apply and OK buttons at the bottom
of the remaining window.  BTW, if you right click the offending icon, is
there a menu with options, like Don't show this icon?, or Preferences, or
Options, where you can disable the warning icon?  If not, and it's in the
notification area, the method above should keep it hidden.

Start, run, msconfig, startup tab, and look for the appropriate
HP/deskjet startup item. Untick the box and it won't be loaded at
startup - this will remove all the other printer facilities you can get
to via the systray, but will =probably= stop the 'out of ink' icon.

Alternatively just right click the taskbar, select properties, taskbar,
notification area, customise, and set that particular icon to 'always
hide' (but beware, the systray icons don't always .. in fact hardly ever
.. do what you ask them to).

One more shot.  Have you tried just pulling out the catridge(s) and putting
them back in.  On my Epson Stylus 800 this action resets the low ink on the
printer itself.
