windows xp desktop icons won't stay put

Tom #1 / 4	windows xp desktop icons won't stay put My Windows xp machine won't remember where the desktop icons are placed after boot up. Seems to go into auto arrange when booted up. If I position the icons where I want them, log off and back on, the icons are right where I put them, but, if I shut down and reboot, they revert to auto arrange.
