Is there any way to disable the NetHood folder under
X:\documents and settings\Xuser\NetHood ?

This folder is storing links to shared folders on my
workgroup and I don't want it to do that. I tried deleting
it but it is automatically created again.

Is there any way to remove it? Are there any Microsoft
utilities that can remove it? (or perhaps by modifying the
registry?).

See if this applies:

This restriction stops remote shared folders from being added to Network
Places whenever you open a document in the shared folder.

Go to Start/Run/Regedit and navigate to:

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\
Explorer

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\
Explorer

Value Name: NoRecentDocsNetHood
Data Type: REG_DWORD (DWORD Value)
Value Data: (0 = track shares, 1 = disable tracking)

Create a new DWORD value, or modify the existing value, called
'NoRecentDocsNetHood' and edit the value according to the settings below.
Exit your registry, you may need to restart or log out of Windows for the
change to take effect.
