Disable FIFO and then dual FIFO

I couldn't recall the helping persons' names, but they sort of recommended
me to download the driver for the motherboard in order to access maxtor
ATA133 hard drives in win98. I did what I was told and single FIFO had been
updated to dual FIFO, but the hard drives still got problems. Could somebody
help? And win98 newsgroups have been terminated??
Thanks
Jack

Disable FIFO and then dual FIFO

Hi,

What is the problem with the ATA133 HDD?
If the mobo is too old to suppport ATA133, try go to the mobo manufacturer's website to have a look.
Update the BIOS and chipset drivers may be helpful.
Also, make sure you use a 40 Pin 80 conductor shielded IDE cable instead of a 40 Pin flat ribbon cable.
Set the jumper of the HDD to cable select.
In BIOS, set the Primary IDE channel to "auto detect" and enable DMA mode.
BTW, if the updated chipset drivers cannot support ATA133, Your HDD should be able to run in a lower speed.

Disable FIFO and then dual FIFO
I think I should tell the whole story. My ATA133 Hard disk drive came with
the my previous PC. namely Magic-Pro (A Taiwanese manufacturer). When I
upgraded it to Intel D865PERL, I still use the same drives, they drive model
is Maxtor 6YL040... something I can't remember, I installed win98 on this
new combination. Win98 installation stopped at the stage of searching for
device drivers, it just hung there, afterwards, I started my system in safe
mode, disable single FIFO, and the system can be up without the controller
software, I then update the new driver from Intel and the driver become dual
FIFO, and I still have to disable it because of the same previous problem:
the system hung. I restarted my machine in safe mode again, disable dual
FIFO, the system went. So I want to give it up and totally ignore the
controller software. But I still some night want to get it back...Any help?
BTW, do you know D865PERL actually supports ATA133 or only ATA100
Big Thx
Jack
