1.Requiem: Avenging Angel

I'm having trouble running Requiem: Avenging Angel, and 
 would gratefully recieve any suggestions. 
 
The game runs fine on Win98 (My old install), and so I've 
 used the compatability modes when trying to run (and 
 install) the game. The game is also patched up to the 
 current version. 
 
The problem occurs once the game is installed. Running it 
 causes it to produce an error, "DirectX 6 or higher must 
 be installed". Isn't XP shipped with DX8? 
 
Any suggestions as to how to get the game to run?
