Task Manager won't start or stay open.

Does anyone have an answer to the question of why the Task
Manager will not start or if it does it will not stay open
more than a second or two.

It has worked fine for the past 4 or 5 months and then
yesterday it stopped. I have checked the knowledge base at
MS Support and nothing.

Any help is appreciated.

Jim

Task Manager won't start or stay open.
My problem is:

I put the shortcut (Start Minimized) to taskmgr.exe (Aways On Top, Minimize
On Use, Hide When Minimize) in the Startup Group, but sometimes it doesn't
automatically start with xp. When I run it by right clicking from taskbar,
it will show up. After I click the minimize button, it just dissapears from
the system tray! The icon will only display after I close (not minimize) and
restart it.

KingSix:
Thanks for the post. My task manager is GONE! I get it to
show once in a while and then if I hold down the ALT-CTl-
DEL keys I get a short look and then bang...it's gone. No
trace only a little green square box in the upper right
corner of the screen and it goes away if I get close to
the task bar.

1.unknown processes taking up CPU and task manager won't stay open or open

Hello all,

I have a HP laptop with Windows XP on it which was purchased in May of 2002.
The last two weeks I've been expierenceing the following problem.

There appears to be several programs running in the background whicn is
taking up alot of the CPU useage.  I notice this when I try and watch DVD's.
The picture is choppy and does not match up with the audio.  It is also
noticable when I play several of my games, and I've notived that programs
take longer to open.

But the main problem is that when I do the Ctrl-Alt-Delete to open the Task
Manager to see what is running, it first rarely opens and when it does open
it does not stay on the screen for much longer than a few seconds before
disappearing.  I have managed to capture a few screen prints of a couple
times that it opened so I have some ideas of what was running at certain
times.

My guess is that I downloaded some unwanted program that is now running in
the background and screwing things up.  I hope it is not a virus.  I am
usually careful about what I download, and nobody else uses my computer.
But I still understand that these things happen.

So I guess my questions are this.  First is there another way to either open
Windows Task Manager besides the standard Ctrl-Alt-delete that may keep it
open longer, or is there any other way to see what processes are running.
Secondly is there anyone out there that has had similar problems with
programs running in the background and would know of any common programs
that may be doing this to me.  And lastly, if I do have an unwatned program
does anyone know how to get rid of it.

I'd appreciate any help on this manner.  Because I cant get Task Manager to
work, I'm kinda stuck right now
