 mpg playback

I'm trying to playback an mpg video file with WM9, and
it gives error "error downloading codec".   The video and
audio is very choppy.   The file was recorded from ATI
All-in-wonder capture with mpg2 format.   Any ideas
what might be the problem?

 mpg playback

WMP won't download any MPEG2 codecs-

(speaking for myself and doing this in my free time)

1.MPEG and MPG playback

I have winxp running media player version 8.
When i try playing mpg and mpeg files, the total time of the clip displayed
in the bottom right is incorrect and much shorter than the clip actually is.
The clips play normally for the first 30 seconds or so, and then, when the
slider reaches the end, the sound continues, but the video stops.
I am 99% sure that this is a codec problem, because i can play the clips
across my LAN on my laptop, also running XP.
I have tried to delete and re-install the codecs, but when i remove them
(using audio advanced properties and video codecs) they just reappear.
PLEASE could someone help me with this one?
I can also play the clips normally using real player, but i would prefer to
use media player for everything.
